Of Mice and Men Prologue
The sun set through the window of the bar. A young lady with ricocheting earthy colored curls and yellow plumes in her hair and profound crimson lips was determined to a bar stool conversing with the barkeep, ââ¬Å"I tell ya what Tony, one day I'ma be somethin', you simply watch. I ain't selliin you no baloney. I'ma go into town, get outta this damnation opening and make a big deal about myself. I wasn't destined to be no one important singin' in a bar each night that is without a doubt, I'ma become wildly successful Tony. I'ma be in the photos one day.â⬠ââ¬Å"You need to stop dreamin kid. It ain't going to accomplish nothing for you simply despondent. We as a whole have our expectations a' fantasies, yet nothin' ever occurs. You best go prepare now, you're on in five.â⬠The young lady was scarcely 16 in her splendid blue eyes, however was looking more than 25 in her low profile shining sun yellow dress. She rearranged off her bar stool to the phase where she remained before her mouthpiece confronting the crowd of enormous husky men yelling at one another, playing games, and drinking beer. The man on the piano begun playing and the room went quiet, all aside from one voice and a piano. The best solid anybody in that room had ever heard. The young lady detected all the men's eyes falling on her and she loved the consideration. She began to shake her hips and coast around the stage, slurping up the wolf whistles from all the men. Two men entered the bar, both a similar tallness; One was an old men, with white hair and a whiskers, the other just somewhat more established than her. They stood apart among the various men in the room that were wearing denim. They were situated at the table directly before the stage. The young lady couldn't take her eyes off the more youthful man. Something about the riddle of him was giving her stomach butterflies. She completed her show to a major adulation and yells from all the men separated from the two at the front who just acclaimed unobtrusively. She had her spot back at the bar, ââ¬Å"say, Tony, what are them two doing here?â⬠She pointed cautiously at the men close to the stage, ââ¬Å"They unquestionably ain't from this town, for sure.â⬠Tony investigated and murmured, ââ¬Å"Don't know who they think they are, flashin' their stuff like they somethin' extraordinary, people like them got no business in places like thisâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Tony immediately quit talking as he saw the most youthful of the men strolling over. ââ¬Å"Hey, my name is Rico Millegrew, I work for an ability office. Me and my dad heard you were acceptable and came to look at it, we'd like you to join our office, give you a shot for acting, get you in the photos, we seen what you can do with your singing and you're a serious looker, we figure you could truly go far.â⬠The little youngster looked astounded, ââ¬Å"What you tryna say?â⬠Her face glimmered and the energy developed inside her when she thought of all the pleasant garments and cash she'd have. ââ¬Å"Just give me your location and I'll send a letter out to you first thingâ⬠. Tony who had been listening cautiously to the discussion slipped her a bit of paper and a pen, ââ¬Å"Lola, think what ya doing kid, it could be a trick, you find out about this kinda stuff constantly, folks pretendin' to be somethin' they ain't to exploit little youngster like you.â⬠Lola gazed at him, ââ¬Å"Shut up Tony! What do you know? Just ââ¬Ëcuz you're goin' no place with your life don't mean you can attempt to demolish mine. I realize you need me to remain here in this damnation gap mind you ââ¬Ëcuz you got no odds yet I ain't, you hear me? This is my chane, I'ma become wildly successful Tony and afterward we'll see who was right!â⬠The displeasure flared in the young lady's eyes as she tuned in to the pitiless expressions of her companion attempting to demolish her fantasy. Out of resentment and energy she wrote down her location and name and gave the paper to the man, ââ¬Å"promise ya'll compose, you better ensure you keep in touch with me now!â⬠The man took a gander at the focused on young lady and mumbled before leaving the bar with the other man. The young lady got her jacket and ran underneath the evening glow, right to her home. She flung open the entryway, ââ¬Å"Ma'!â⬠she cried towards the moderately aged grim looking lady sat close to the fire shaking a support. The lady gazed at her like she was distraught as she revealed to her the tale of the men at the bar and how she was going to make a big deal about herself. ââ¬Å"You're crazy!â⬠she yelled at the little youngster, ââ¬Å"You ain't going no place, you're excessively youthful, you don't think we as a whole have dreams? Well I had a fantasy once, turn where I finished upward! A single parent with six children, and you shouting gibberish at me! Some life this is ain't it!â⬠The lady gasped to slow down, ââ¬Å"Stop bein' so ludicrous, life ain't a fantasy, life ain't simple, you ain't takin' any simple course missy, you just going to wind up like me and the various ladies in this god spurned town, a useless no one, just useful for poppin' out children a' your better half runnin' off with some modest lousy tartâ⬠The little youngs ter was diminished to tears, she ran upstairs where she would not come out of for quite a long time. Lola burned through three, slow months sitting tight for the letter. She'd been freezing that it wasn't coming, stressing she had given an inappropriate data, accusing Tony for making her go insane before them. After an additional three months, June was drawing closer. In the long run, a half year of sitting tight and censuring everybody for it not coming had made Lola acknowledge there could never be a letter. The blistering sun glimmered through the bar window. Tony remained in his typical spot behind the bar cleaning glasses, he saw the worn out dead eyes and level grimy earthy colored hair of the young lady that had quite recently strolled in wearing a soil recolored sun dress. Following a half year, Tony scarcely perceived the young lady that was gazing at him and he quickly comprehended what had occurred, she never got the letter. He didn't utter a word, just got her a beverage. ââ¬Å"On the house.â⬠He said to Lola. She was puzzled at his liberality after how she had treated him, ââ¬Å"thank you,â⬠she said seriously and gave him a powerless grin. She took her beverage and set at the bar till the sun set, drinking till she was half-dead. ââ¬Å"You've had enough Lola,â⬠Tony said taking a gander at the limp body spread over the bar, ââ¬Å"you should get off home.â⬠He checked out the space for help and saw a little man with coarse wire hair remaining close to the bar, ââ¬Å"you couldn't give me a hand currently could you?â⬠He asked the outsider. The outsider took a gander at the young lady and said ââ¬Å"Sure. My name's Curley coincidentally. This young lady looks dead!â⬠He put his arm around the young lady and Tony did likewise, ââ¬Å"NO!â⬠she yelled, ââ¬Å"No, I'm not returning there! Absolutely no way am I goin' to go back!â⬠The men took a gander at one another moronic strucken, ââ¬Å"Say, my dad possesses a farm not very far away, for what reason don't she come keep awake there for a couple of evenings until she gets herself sorted?â⬠Tony didn't have the foggiest idea what to state, ââ¬Å"I assume she'd be okay, I've heard beneficial things about the supervisor up at the farm in Soledad.â⬠The young lady murmured a smashed request, ââ¬Å"Anythin' however that placeâ⬠, she said. The men took the young lady outside and set her on a solid pony. Curley then moved up and set behind her. ââ¬Å"Make sure she's alrigh'!â⬠said Tony to Curley. Curley took a gander at Tony and grinned, ââ¬Å"Oh don't you stress, she'll be fine, I can sure sneak up all of a sudden to anybody that attempts to hurt herâ⬠he smiled. Tony was consoled and waved him off.
